We've been nominated as semifinalists as outstanding bakers!
Cheryl and Griffith Day are self-taught bakers who founded Back in the Day Bakery in Savannah, Georgia, in 2002. They are semi-finalists for this year’s James Beard Foundation Award for Outstanding Baker. Cheryl honed her skills in her mother’s and grandmother’s kitchens, and her enthusiasm for enriching lives through the time-honored art of scratch baking is one of her most endearing qualities (along with a few dance moves she picked up in her days as a Soul Train dancer!). Griff’s interest in baking was piqued by the magical sourdough starter that his mother kept in the family kitchen when he was a child. He is a master of flavorful breads and creative savory dishes. Cheryl and Griff got married in their bakery, and the recipe for their wedding cake appears on page 82 of their first cookbook, The Back in the Day Bakery Cookbook, a New York Times bestseller. Their much-anticipated new cookbook, Back in the Day Bakery Made with Love, will be published by Artisan in March 2015.

Pot Likker Vegetable Soup
It's getting cool outside and we always look forward to soup season. One of our favorites is our #madefromscratch Pot Likker Vegetable Soup, a Southern tradition here at the bakery. Full of corn, carrots, collards, onion, butter peas, roasted red peppers, celery...yum! Lot's of goodness that sticks to your ribs
To start out, this is a contest give away, sponsored by Swiss Diamond Cookware. Pretty exciting stuff huh?
Full disclosure, Swiss Diamond was nice enough to
provide us with a set of their pans for us to try and in return offer our fans of Back in the Day Bakery a chance to receive a free three piece cookware set valued at $229.95!
So here we go. To be honest, there are so many types of non-stick cookware out there that the bad outweighs the good. So, when I received the Swiss Diamond package I was ready to go through some cooking tests that would test my expectations from any high end pot or pan.
Swiss Diamond has the reputation of being the best out there and I would have to agree. The pans themselves have a nice weight, sturdy construction and when you start to cook the heat distribution is quit amazing. From a low simmer to searing meat, I had no problems
controlling the heat; with no hot spots.
The Swiss Diamond HD non-stick coating is amazing.
Stated from Swiss Diamond "the patented coating is PFOA-free and reinforced with real diamond crystals in order to create a long lasting, naturally nonstick surface with superior heat conduction. It can be used with no oil or butter and cleans up with just warm soapy water – no scrubbing and soaking necessary.
Also stated; "Additionally, our cookware is oven-safe up to 500 degrees allowing meals to start on the stovetop and finish in the oven. Heavy-duty cast aluminum bodies will never warp, while the perfectly flat base distributes heat evenly and will not tip or spin. Rivet-free interior prevents unsightly food build-up that can lead to bacterial growth. Ergonomic handles, designed for comfort and balance, stay cool on the stovetop. Swiss Diamond cookware was ranked #1 nonstick by the leading US consumer ratings organization and dubbed the “Rolls-Royce of Nonstick Fry Pans” by the Wall Street Journal."
Trust me, I can cook and see the difference with these pans :-) I was impressed.
So, here is the contest! Go back to our facebook page and comment on the link that brought you here. We will choose a random number
depending on the number of comments. For example, if we have 100 comments, we will choose only one random number from a hat 1 - 100 and pick one winner!
The winner will be announced Sept 7th!!
We would to thank Swiss Diamond for the opportunity to work with them and offering this lovely cookware set for our fans of Back in the Day Bakery. Swiss Diamond will mail directly to the winner we choose, so we will let you know who wins and Swiss Diamond will contact you to ship your prize! Good Luck everyone!!!
